Personal Celebrations

Webster's defines celebrate as follows: 1) to perform a ritual, ceremony, etc publicly and formally; 2) to honor or praise publicly 3) to mark an occasion by engaging in some pleasurable activity. Over the past seven years, House of Menuha has blossomed into a unique haven for many women and women-based groups for this very reason -- to celebrate and honor life. Diane Davis Reed, a long-time supporter of House of Menuha explains, "Celebrations are important because they are individually created rituals for special purposes in a person's life. They acknowledge, honor, witness and support the individual in times of transition or in making a commitment." Laura Conley hosted a Celebration Brunch for her 16-year-old daughter at Menuha because "the spiritual energy is almost tangible; it's a feeling you can't conjure up at home." She says, "we were collectively acknowledging the connection there is between women, and acknowledging the power of love, and there just ain't anything better than that!" Menuha has hosted wedding showers, birthday celebrations, mother's day celebrations, special holiday meals with women friends, a book dedication, prayer groups, and a host of others. These celebrations teach us to honor the sacred in ourselves, in others, in everyday life.
