"Listening is one of the great gifts that a person can give...because when you listen you expose yourself to the possibility of changing your point of view."
~ Bishop Ricardo Ramirez

Welcome to Autumn! Autumn of 2008 is truly unique as we will be electing new leadership for our country. What I am discovering in myself is a much deeper and more discerning kind of listening! I find myself hearing what candidates are saying and then listening for - what I'm not hearing.

I'm questioning! I'm asking friends to reflect back what they hear - to share their wisdom as they reflect on issues so vital to the well-being of our nation and each of us as individuals. Ultimately I am responsible for choosing those for whom I will cast my vote. I am challenging each of us to prepare ourselves well - maintaining our integrity - as we listen with an openness to the whole truth of what all candidates are saying. The Democrats & Republicans are both calling for CHANGE - so for me the Huge Question is, what is the CHANGE MOST NEEDED NOW? Who will be the persons that will lead us into that change?

Good listening!

Namaste,
Sr. Annie

"Style is a magic wand and turns everything to Gold that it touches." ~ Logan Pearsall Smith
Sometimes we get into ruts. We look in our closets and think, "I have nothing to wear." It may just mean you need someone with a fresh eye, passion for fashion and who wants you to look and feel your best. Jennifer Niehouse comes into your closet and recreates new outfits with the clothes you already own. She wants to add value to your wardrobe and it's a little like recycling. We may have body images that we struggle with and Jennifer understands the tricky feelings that get in the way of dressing attractively. She wants you to feel good and look your best and with this she sees the beauty you may dismiss. We can be extremely hard on ourselves and sometimes we need someone from the outside to remind us of the goddess within.
Jennifer Niehouse, wardrobe stylist & founder of It's So U!
(Jennifer will also be our luncheon guest on November 5)

Knot Magic: The Art of Making Magical Fabrics for Healing & Growth
Knot magic is one of the most ancient forms of magic. The modern-day prayer shawl is a form of knot magic. Magic is the disciplined focus of strong intention into a prayer, chant or, as in knot magic, an action and/or some material object. Linda learned it from her Cherokee grandmother and aunt, but it is found in the distant past of all cultures. In knot magic, a strong, specific focus or intention in thought or spoken word is tied into each knot, or in this case, each stitch. Each kind of stitch carries a different kind of focus, as does each type of fiber and each of the different colors used in creating the shawl or other fabric. Please join us for this discussion, illustrated with stories about and examples of Linda's various works from knit shawls for physical and emotional healing and growth to embroidered and quilted pieces for safe passage through life's storms.

Discovering and Experiencing the Female Face of God
For over 2000 years, our culture has supported the male face of God. Regardless of your faith tradition, many American values are based upon the Christian story. How has this impacted your life? Come explore early manuscripts and artwork, and experience the female face. Discoveries of what early Christians knew challenges us to re-explore what we learned as children. And it heals! Experience and share with others the Divine feminine energy that is emerging in our lives today.
Bonnie Rosen-Cowherd, M.Div, Director of Divine Balance, a non-profit organization whose mission is to bring justice and equality to our world by providing opportunities to experience the Female Face of God in early historical Christianity.
