About
The House of Menuha is a not-for-profit organization with 501(c)3 status. It was founded in 1992 as a result of working with women who were running on empty and needed a place to recharge their batteries. Over the years, it has evolved into a learning center and place to connect with other women on a similar journey. It is funded through attendance at our programs, facility rental, donations and grants.
A place for women to experience spiritual growth and development in the company of other women, House of Menuha offer workshops, service projects and one-on-one services in the areas of women's health and wellness. We meet a unique need for women to connect with themselves, each other and their communities.
Our focus is on spirituality without dogma and we welcome women from all walks of life to experience the programs and connections Menuha has to offer.
We are located in the Waldo area of Kansas City, Missouri, in a beautiful, recently-remodeled 60-year old home that offers a comfortable, intimate setting for our programs and services.

Women Supporting Women (WSW)
As women we seem to transition from career, to new mom, to moms, and then perhaps take that leap into becoming self-employed. During each transition we tend to learn by doing with little or no system of support. Wouldnt it be a great opportunity to connect with other women who are experiencing some of the same successes and challenges?
Our new series of Women Supporting Women (WSW) can help you connect with other women on the same path. Beginning in October there will be four different groups available for you to meet and connect with those on a similar path: New Moms, Experienced Moms, Career Path Women, and Entrepreneurs and the Self-Employed Women.
The groups are hosted at Menuha each Sunday afternoon from 2-4 p.m. Specific interests meet once per month, with a different group meeting each Sunday of the month. What a great resource to have other women to discuss issues, support each other, and walk away with fresh new ideas and peers you can share the experience with. Check out the (free) groups below and see which one works best for you!
New Moms: New moms need all the support they can get and having other new moms to walk through it with is very reassuring. Plus, you can find great ideas and tips from other moms who have probably walked in your sleep-deprived shoes very recently!
Experienced Moms: Just because you dont have a newborn, doesnt mean there arent plenty of challenges. Cell phones, dating, managing two sports, three activities and a working spouseit all adds up. Whether you work inside or outside the home, experienced moms need support and friendly advice, too.
Career Path Women: No matter what career you are in, everyday stresses of managing employees, bosses and a personal life can catch up with you. Find support and some of yourself! with this group of like-minded women.
Entrepreneurs and Self-Employed: Working by yourself or being the boss in your own business brings its own brand of challenges and rewards. Who can understand this better than other entrepreneurs? Share best practices, get advice and improve your business as a result.
Powerful Women Retreats (PWR)
Menuha actively collaborates with organizations helping women to break the cycles of domestic abuse, sexual abuse, substance abuse, homelessness or those who are HIV positive. Quite often these issues are co-occurring issues. These women have usually experienced a traumatic or violent life event. The painful effects of interpersonal abuse and violence on the individual, their families and communities are frequently pervasive and lasting. 48% to 90% of women with mental health and substance abuse disorders also have histories of domestic violence or sexual abuse. (US Department of Health and Human Services, The Center on Women, Violence and Trauma). Menuha has partnered with the Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assault (MOCSA), Rose Brooks Center, Friendship House/Catherines Place, Rediscover, First Call (formerly National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence), and Good Samaritan Project to offer one- and two-day retreats focusing on life skills and self care.
This program focuses on enhancing self-care, dignity and self-worth for women, is led by women, and foster womens self-esteem and courage. The ultimate objective is to create long-term change by helping the women take better care of themselves, mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually.
The women who benefit from the retreats do not have a safe place to learn about themselves and develop the inner resources necessary to combat these cycles. The mission of House of Menuha is to help strengthen the mind, body, and spirit so that each woman is better equipped to deal with her family and community. The Powerful Women Retreats are at the heart of what we do to not only give back and help change the lives of these women, but also their families and the communities in which they live. Through a strength-based program, we help these women connect with themselves as well as other women in order to learn and draw upon their own wisdom and resources.
Goals :
•To create long-term change and break the cycle of substance abuse, violence or other co-occurring issues.
•To help these women identify and draw from their strengths and wisdom and take better care of themselves physically, emotionally and spiritually.
•To network with a group of women they can call upon for support, hope, guidance, and resources to make better decisions for their future and the future of their children.
•To help each woman develop a deeper awareness of her strengths and self-imposed limitations as well as help to create a more positive self-image and sense of personal power.

Resources
Who doesn't like to find out about a good book, inspiring class or great opportunity? Not us, that's for sure. And, when we find stuff we love, we want to share it with our friends. Here are resources we have found to be authentic, energizing and supportive of all that we are (or want to be!).
Books
SARK's Succulent Wild Woman is one of our favorites. The author has had some very real and tough life experiences that feed this book but that is not the true essence of it. Rather, the real lessons here go much, much beyond that. SARK is inspiring and witty, encouraging women to step out and live a fully succulent life.
Eat, Pray, Love is now a movie. Before that, though, Elizabeth Gilbert's journal of traveling across Italy, India and Bali to find herself after a nasty divorce. It's not just a travelogue; it's a great story of finding your own way and setting a new path. Elizabeth's humor and observations make it completely worthwhile.
Newsletters
The DailyOM is a great place to nurture your mind and spirit online when you can't make it to the House. There is a daily newsletter plus great courses (virtually) and other resources.
We'd love to hear from you if you have questions or ideas. Donations are also very much appreciated!
